An officer fatally shot a dog that allegedly bit a man in Dorchester Monday night, officials say.

At 8:26 p.m., police responded to 77 Dakota St. for a report of a dog biting a person in a park, according to the Boston Police Department.

Upon arrival, the officer shot the dog, police said. The victim, who had non-life-threatening injuries, and the dog were taken to a local hospital, authorities said.

The dog succumbed to its injuries and died, according to police.

The incident was reported to animal control, which continues to be investigated by the department.
