Suspect in Newark pharmacy break-in arrested, others at large

Newark, Delaware State Police arrested Janine McAlonan, 39, of Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, in connection with a burglary at a Newark-area pharmacy. Two accomplices, Christopher Welch, 42, and another unidentified person remain at large.

Troopers responded to a report of a burglary on Oct. 26 at approximately 3:00 a.m. at the Saveway Compound Pharmacy on Albe Drive. Two suspects forced their way into the pharmacy, stealing a safe containing several thousand dollars worth of cash and controlled substances, which they placed in a dark-colored SUV provided by an unidentified driver who fled the scene the place.

Investigations, in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, identified Welch and McAlonan as suspects in this and similar incidents in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Burglary warrants and related charges have been issued, although the third suspect remains unidentified with no description available.

On Monday, McAlonan turned himself in to police at Troop 1, facing multiple felony charges, including burglary and theft, and was released on $11,000 unsecured bail after his arraignment. Welch is still wanted.
