Woman loses sight in one eye after being attacked with paintball guns near 63rd and Normandy; Chicago police are looking for suspects

CHICAGO (WLS) — A 19-year-old woman was just steps from her Southwest Side home when someone with a paintball gun shot her and several others.

“They were both on the floor, crying and screaming, with their hot chocolate next to them on the floor,” said Adrean Murillo, the victim’s brother.

Halloween night ended tragically for Adrean’s younger sister, Vicky.

Vicky’s family said one of those shots hit her in the face, and doctors believe her vision in one eye is now permanently damaged.

Adrean said the criminals were driving around their neighborhood shooting paintballs at people.

“What they said is this car followed them around the block, then made a U-turn and put phones out the window, started recording, and that’s when they shot the paintballs at them,” Adrean said.

Now, Vicky and her friend are recovering from serious injuries they suffered near West 63rd Place and South Normandy Avenue.

Adrean said several of his neighbors were shot by paintballs on the same night and he is frustrated by the senselessness of the crime.

“It was crazy to me because they were wearing pink, fluffy stuff. I don’t know who would target young women like that,” Adrean said.

Now, the family said, doctors don’t think Vicky will regain sight in that left eye.

“Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely, and if there is any vision restored to that eye, it will be extremely blurry,” Adrean said.

The family said they continue to work with investigators to find evidence online and in their neighborhood.

But so far, CPD said, no arrests have been made.
