Xavier High School principal terminated following complaint received by Diocese of Green Bay

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) – Xavier High School Principal Mike Mauthe has been fired from his position, according to a letter sent to Xavier families Thursday.

The letter states that the Diocese of Green Bay received a complaint against Mauthe, which prompted it to open an investigation.

It goes on to say that because this complaint relates to a personnel matter, “no further details can be provided.”

Action 2 News reached out to the Diocese of Green Bay and the Appleton Police Department, but did not hear back.

According to his biography on the Xavier Catholic Schools websiteMauthe grew up in Menasha and began her career at Xavier in 1996. She left her teaching job at Xavier in 2012 to become principal at Lourdes Academy Middle and High School in Oshkosh. He returned to Xavier in 2014 as director.

Dear Xavier families,

I regret to inform you that a complaint was received by the Diocese of Green Bay’s Office of Safe Environment, who then opened an investigation. As a result, Mr. Mike Mauthe is no longer employed at St. Francis Xavier. As this is a personnel matter, no further details can be provided.

The safety of our children is our number one priority. We understand that this news can be upsetting and we are committed to supporting you with our students and staff. Three Catholic Charities mental health counselors will be on site at Xavier High School and available to staff and students on Friday, November 15.
