Aaron Rodgers as leader says Jets job ‘is to be part of the solution’

In fact, as Rodgers said, he was four games under .500 before that. The trick is to translate all the good intentions, tough talk and talent in the locker room into a consistent block of play. The Jets haven’t been able to do that consistently. An error might have overlooked the effect their two Thursday night wins, followed by mini-bye weekends, would have on their next games, the one-point loss at home to Denver in the week 3 and last Sunday’s upset at Arizona.

But if those losses were process issues, they weren’t the only ones affecting the Jets. That prompted Rodgers to examine what the answers might be starting this week.

“I think it’s a return to fundamentals, a return to basics,” he said. “It’s a wake-up call for all of us. When you lose the way we lost this year, you have to check the process. What’s your process during the week? And if it’s not resulting in the performance you want, then you have to make changes, that’s how you win from monday to saturday by doing all the extra stuff so that when it comes to sunday you can play for free.”

The changes for the Colts are well known. The defense wants to cut down a lot on missed tackles, and some advertising would be welcome. Offensively, the Jets went 0-for-3 on red-zone TDs against the Cardinals, dropping their NFL mark to 26th (51.6%).

And while they generated long drives in the desert to at least reach the red zone, the Green & White, after generating 31 explosive plays (more than 20 yards) in the first nine games, had none in Arizona for the first given in 16. games last season.

“If we want to make shots downfield, we have to block it up front. We do that, we have a chance,” Rodgers said. “We’ve got to keep the quarterback clean, run the ball a little more efficiently and maybe a little more so we can get some of those action passes.”
