OCONEE COUNTY, SC (FOX Carolina) – The Oconee County Coroner’s Office says a 73-year-old man has been found dead after a vehicle was discovered underwater in Lake Hartwell on Tuesday.

Officials said a fisherman called 911 at 1:30 p.m. after finding a vehicle underwater near a private boat ramp on Tugaloo Shores Drive near Fair Play.

The vehicle, a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup, was later pulled from the lake in about eight feet of water.

The coroner has not identified the victim at this time.

Authorities said the victim lived nearby and was reported missing the same day.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating.
