Police are investigating the accidental death at the Amazon facility

PORT ST. LUCIA, Fla. — A man died early Tuesday morning at an Amazon fulfillment center in Port St. Lucie, the officers said.

The incident occurred around 12:08 a.m. at the Amazon location located at 13450 Southwest Anthony F. Sansone Sr. Blvd.

Police said a mechanic became trapped under an Amazon delivery van, prompting officers and the St. Louis Fire District. Lucie County to respond to the facility.

Investigators said a preliminary investigation revealed Andrew Tabannah, 42, was working under the van, which was propped up on a jack stand.

At one point, police said the ruse failed and the van fell partially on top of Tabannah, pinning him underneath.

Co-workers placed additional jacks under the van and removed Tabannah from under the vehicle. Police said they began lifesaving measures until an ambulance arrived.

Tabannah was taken to Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said detectives have taken over the investigation, notified OSHA and will work with them on the case.

At this time, police said the death appears to be accidental and no foul play is suspected.
