LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – A 14-year-old student was struck by a car Monday morning, Nov. 11, while crossing Rancho Viejo and Riverbank streets on his way to Washington Middle School, according to UISD police.

UISD Police Department Public Information Officer Sylvia Abrego said the student was not using the marked crosswalk when the accident occurred.

“The child did indeed cross an unmarked crosswalk, he crossed the street instead of the crosswalk. There is a marked crosswalk there on Riverbank and Rancho Viejo,” Abrego said.

The driver remained at the scene and was not cited. The student was taken to Medici Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
