Man injured in Friday morning rollover crash on I-70 after falling asleep at the wheel, officials say

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (WIBW) – A driver was taken to an area hospital Friday morning after being injured in a rollover crash that officials say happened when he fell asleep at the wheel while traveling on Interstate 70 of Wyandotte County.

The crash was reported at 1 a.m. Friday on eastbound I-70 near the I-635 interchange.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said the crash occurred when the driver of a 2006 Pontiac Vibe fell asleep at the wheel while traveling east on I-70.

The patrol said the Pontiac then left the side of the road and struck the metal guardrail before overturning.

The driver, Lourdes Murillo-Valdes, 35, of Kansas City, Kan., was taken to University of Kansas Hospital with suspected minor injuries.

The patrol said Murillo-Valdes, who was alone in the car, was wearing a seat belt.
