The mother of five may be permanently disabled after being attacked after a night out

HOUSTON, Texas (KHOU) – A woman could be permanently disabled after she was allegedly stalked and assaulted following an outing.

Shameka Fortner said she spends every day checking on her oldest child, Javoni, 31, who is still in the hospital.

“You know, as a mom, as long as she’s in a good mood, I’m in a good mood,” Fortner said.

Javoni Fortner, a mother of five, also works two jobs.

She went to do some grooming, making time for herself to go to a paint and sip event on September 29th.

Javoni Fortner finally took a ride-hailing service back to her home.

Around 9:30 p.m. that same day, Shameka Fortner received a call about her daughter.

“I heard her in hysterics and she was just yelling, ‘Mom, mom, somebody tried to beat me to death with a club,'” Shameka Fortner said.

Police said Javoni Fortner appeared to have been attacked with a club or bat, and the suspect may have fled in a black sedan.

Javoni Fortner was left with serious injuries, but her mother hopes witnesses will come forward.

Although the attacker has not been seen, the family suspects it was someone known to Javoni Fortner.

Shameka Fortner believes the suspect may be someone her daughter rejected. She also said she believes her daughter used something to defend herself.

“I still have the purse she was holding and if it hadn’t been for her purse I probably would have buried my daughter last weekend,” she said. “So yes, she will be disabled for the rest of her life.”

Shameka Fortner said she is thankful her daughter is alive, but hopes the suspect is found.

“Capturing this person has to be a priority, there’s no telling how many times he’s done this,” Shameka Fortner said.

The family also started a GoFundMe page to help with medical expenses.

They also said they wanted to thank the person who found Javoni Fortner and called 911.
