A 35-year-old technology professional is presumed dead after he was thrown into the Yamuna river during a high-speed collision on the Kalindi Kunj bridge in New Delhi on Friday evening. During the incident, his wife and a 10-month-old daughter were injured, police said on Sunday.

According to an Indian Express report, police said Mohammad Shami, from Haldwani in Uttarakhand, was returning with his family to Abul Fazal Enclave near Shaheen Bagh after visiting relatives in Noida when a speeding car hit their motorcycle from the back around 8:30 p.m.

The collision forced Shami over the bridge railing into the river, while his wife Arshi Rafiq, 30, and their daughter suffered fractures to their spine and legs respectively. I am currently under treatment.

As of Friday evening, a search operation involving police, divers and a boat club rescue team was underway to find Shami, a police officer said, adding that the driver of the car may have been under the influence of alcohol .

“An FIR has been registered against the car driver under sections 281 and 125 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Kalindi Kunj police station. He has been identified and efforts are on to nab him,” the policeman added.

A Mumbai man died after jumping from the Atal Setu Bridge

In a separate incident, a 38-year-old engineer from Mumbai jumped from the Atal Setu Bridge on Wednesday afternoon (July 24). The entire incident was captured on CCTV, which showed the man stopping his Tata Nexon on the Mumbai Trans Harbor Link and attempting to commit suicide by climbing over the railing and jumping to his death.

The man has been identified as K Shrinivas, an engineer and a resident of Dombivili, news agency PTI reported.

His family members claimed he struggled to make ends meet. They suspect that financial problems were the reason behind his drastic step, the report said. He left his residence around 11.30pm the previous night.
