Quick-thinking strangers save the driver from burning the car

Chaos erupted further OR Tambo Road this morning when a car burst into flames, but quick-thinking passers-by sprung into action, saving the driver from harm.

Grateful driver Wendy Ashington recounted her terrifying experience: “I am deeply grateful to Christelle Mkhonza and the six men who saved me. If I hadn’t been pulled out of the car, I could have been seriously injured. They were absolute heroes.”

Ashington was driving home from Clearwater Estate when her car started having problems.

Chaos erupted on OR Tambo Road this morning when a car burst into flames, but quick-thinking passers-by sprung into action, saving the driver from harm.

Mkhonza, who saw what was happening, alerted her to the fire, and six men quickly swung into action, using fire extinguishers to put out the fire.

“The whole ordeal unfolded in seconds,” Ashington recalled. “I am shaken but grateful for their courage and quick thinking.”
