Metabolomics is an emerging field that offers significant potential in understanding cardiovascular disease (CVD) by analyzing the imbalance of endogenous metabolites. These imbalances, manifested in samples such as blood, urine, and tissue, are indicative of myocardial metabolic disturbances prevalent in various CVD processes. Current research has shown that metabolomics can provide comprehensive insights into metabolic changes over time, providing a holistic view of disease progression. Recent studies have identified potential biomarkers for the early diagnosis and prognosis of cardiovascular disease through meticulous screening, qualitative, quantitative and validation analyzes of metabolite levels. Despite these advances, there remains a critical need to further explore metabolic disturbances in cardiomyocytes, particularly in energy metabolism, glycolysis, and fatty acid metabolism. Identifying therapeutic targets and elucidating the underlying mechanisms are areas that require more focused investigation to improve the understanding and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

This research topic aims to advance the role of metabolomics in the understanding and management of cardiovascular disease. The main objectives include the exploration of potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets, thus contributing to the improvement of diagnostic and treatment strategies. Key questions to be addressed include identifying plasma biomarkers for CVD diagnosis, analyzing biochemical metabolic status through metabolic regulatory networks, and elucidating the etiology and mechanisms of CVD based on metabolic features.

To gather more information on the application of metabolomics to cardiovascular disease, we welcome articles that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:
– The discovery of plasma biomarkers for the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases
– Analysis of biochemical metabolic status in cardiovascular diseases through metabolic regulation networks
– Clarifying the etiology and mechanism of cardiovascular diseases based on different metabolic characteristics
– Exploring the potential functional metabolism of small molecules for cardiovascular diseases
