MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Motivational speaker Dwight Owens tells his story at Meridian Community College.

Dwight’s story drives him to help others in all walks of life.

Dwight partners with Special Olympics Mississippi and the mcc club to inspire students and the community.

He talks about mental health awareness, suicide prevention, alcohol and substance abuse prevention and disability awareness.

“Many people with disabilities feel trapped in a world that people don’t understand. Many people are lonely, so they turn to drugs, alcohol, turn to other things, and lose hope. So I’m here to change that, to show people that disabled people are no different than anyone else. We have goals, we have dreams and all that stuff and we have a purpose. So a lot of times you come in here and do things like that and it helps change somebody’s perspective and look at somebody with a different lens,” Dwight Owens said.
