WHAT:

Curtain-raising press briefing on the opening of the UN World Data Forum 2024

The forum will be hosted by the Government of Colombia with the support of the Department of Administrativo Nacional de Estadística (DANE-Colombia), the Bureau of Statistics, the City of Medellín (Alcaldía de Medellín) and the Statistics Division of the Economic Department and the United Nations. Social Affairs (UN DESA).

More than 3,000 data leaders from governments, the private sector, national statistical offices, geospatial communities, academic institutions, civil society and other organizations will gather at this global forum November 12-15 in Medellín, Colombia to showcase innovation, data use and value, promotes trust and protection, partnership and coordination. In the Latin American region, for the first time, the Forum will feature over 100 events, including 4 high-level plenary sessions, 50 panel discussions, 11 breakout sessions, 12 learning labs, 5 demo sessions, 5 announcement sessions, 3 exhibition spaces. and local events.

NOTE:

Forum speakers will include members High Level Group on Partnership, Coordination and Capacity Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Members of the Program Committee of the UN World Data Forum 2024.

WHY: As the world looks to the rest of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and takes in the recent outcomes of the UN Future Summit, the data and statistics community is gathering at the fifth UN World Data Forum in 2024 to launch a renewed a global action plan for sustainable development, introducing twelve new priorities and a new set of expanded actions and linked commitments to promote high-quality, timely, open and inclusive data to accelerate progress on the SDGs and address crises multiple threats to our world. The renewed Global Action Plan is a second generation document of the original Cape Town Global Action Plan for Sustainable Development data launched at the first Forum in 2017, reflecting the aspirations of the wider stakeholder base promoted by the Forum over the past seven years.
