Police are investigating separate violent incidents in which people were injured by strangers in the city centre.

A 45-year-old woman was hit by a car thief who had just stolen her truck in a parking lot near the intersection of York Avenue and Carlton Street Saturday afternoon. Police were dispatched to the scene at around 2:12 p.m

The Winnipeg Police Service said the woman suffered significant injuries and was taken to hospital in unstable condition. She was later upgraded to stable, WPS said late Monday afternoon.

The stolen Toyota Tundra was later recovered by police in the Elmwood area.

Late Sunday night or early Monday morning, a senior citizen was shot in the head with a bomb weapon while walking downtown. Police were dispatched to the area of Hargrave Street and Portage Avenue around midnight Monday.

The victim, who is over 70 years old, was taken to hospital in an unstable condition and later stabled.

The senior said he was walking by Hargrave after leaving a restaurant when he was suddenly shot. Three youths fled the area, WPS said.

Witnesses in the area provided police with descriptions. Two boys, aged 12 and 14, and a 13-year-old girl were eventually taken into custody. They face assault and firearms charges and remained in police custody late Monday morning.

Investigators believe the suspects were shooting BB guns at strangers and there may be more victims who have yet to be identified.
