Maharashtra Election Result Day: from banks to liquor stores, what’s open and closed on November 23

Maharashtra assembly election results for 288 seats will be declared on November 23, for which voting was held on November 20. Pune Collector Suhas Diwase informed ANI that the administration is fully prepared for the result day.

Speaking to ANI on Thursday about the preparations for the counting day, Diwase said, “Necessary barricading has been done. We are logistically ready. For countingwe appointed micro-observers and counting supervisors.”

Liquor stores

He further said that counting of votes will begin with postal ballots at 8:00 am. The warehouse will open an hour early to prepare for the trial. “On an average, 400 postal ballots will be counted at each table,” Diwase added.

On Saturday, the sale of alcohol will be banned in the financial capital Mumbai and other cities in Maharashtra. According to the Election Commission of India, the sale of liquor will be prohibited till 6:00 PM on the day of counting of votes.

Most exit polls have predicted that the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is most likely to form the government, while others are projecting a close contest.

The banks

Banks will be closed on November 23 as it is the fourth Saturday. If a person needs to visit the bank to complete any business or banking transaction this week, it can be done only on or after November 25. The bank branches will remain closed on Sunday.

However, bank customers will be able to access Internet banking, SMS banking and WhatsApp for financial and non-financial transactions.

Stock exchange

The Indian stock market will be closed on November 23. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed on Saturday due to the weekend.

Roads

The Mumbai Traffic Police will enforce temporary traffic restrictions on November 23 from 1 am to 11 pm due to the counting of votes for the Maharashtra assembly elections. Commuters should take designated alternate routes to avoid delays.

The Mumbai traffic police said in a post on X, “Due to the powerful room located at Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi District Sports Complex, Sant Channyya Road Dharavi, Mumbai. Following the traffic regulation and control, it comes into force temporarily on 23.11.2024, between 00:01 and 24:00 (sic).”
