San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch appeared on Bay Area radio station KNBR Friday morning to share the latest on the quarterback Brock Purdyhis injury. Purdy suffered a shoulder injury during Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, significantly limiting his practice participation this week.

Purdy’s shoulder soreness kept him from throwing the team’s first two practices. The 49ers have one more session scheduled on Friday before heading to Lambeau Field for this weekend’s matchup with the Green Bay Packers.

Lynch acknowledged that neither Purdy nor the 49ers know exactly when the quarterback suffered the injury.

“I know he kind of battled through it the whole game,” Lynch said. “And I’m not saying anything debilitating, but I saw him, throughout the game, throw a lot in between. Anytime there was a lull in the game, he kept throwing. And so I think at that point, you probably feel something, but I think he was so focused on trying to win that game.

“We had a plan to try to try to calm her down. And on Wednesday, I didn’t throw. I went there and trained. Thursday we started throwing and then we went in and did some rehab as planned.

“So we’ll see where he is today. Hopefully he’ll make progress and we can have a chance this weekend, but we’ll see. I think he’s weak.”

Lynch revealed that Purdy underwent an MRI earlier this week.

“We feel good about where he is from that standpoint,” Lynch continued. “But still, you have to be able to go out and operate. And so, we sort of figure it all out. Brock will show up here today and we’ll see where he can go in terms of training, and we’ll make some decisions accordingly.”

If Purdy can’t play Sunday, Lynch said so Brandon Allen would start against the Packers. Both Allen and Josh Dobbs we’ve been doing significant training reps this week as Purdy continues to recover.

“Brandon Allen and Josh Dobbs would both be ready, but Brandon would get the first snaps,” Lynch said.
