Congress is trying to ‘sensationalise’ the situation in Manipur, ignoring its past failures: JP Nadda

BJP president JP Nadda accused the Congress of spreading a false and politically motivated narrative about the ongoing unrest in Manipur.

In response to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s letter to President Droupadi Murmu seeking intervention in the Manipur crisis, Nadda claimed that the “repercussions of the Congress’s abject failure” in handling Manipur’s problems during its tenure are still being felt today.

Nadda criticized the Congress for allegedly sensationalizing the situation in Manipur.

“What is shocking is how repeated attempts are being made by the Congress party to sensationalize the situation in Manipur,” Nadda said in a statement.

He also accused Congress of facilitating illegal migration of foreign militants during his tenure.

“Your government has legitimized the illegal migration of foreign militants to India. The then Home Minister P. Chidambaram signed treaties with them. These known militant leaders, who fled their country to avoid arrest, were wholeheartedly supported and encouraged to continue their destabilizing efforts.” he alleged.

He also argued that Congress’s failure to uphold India’s security and administrative protocols has contributed significantly to the current unrest in Manipur.

“This complete failure of India’s administrative and security protocols under your government is one of the major reasons why militant and habitually violent organizations are trying to destroy Manipur’s hard-won peace and push it back decades into the era of anarchy” , he said. said.

Nadda assured that unlike the Congress, the BJP-led NDA government will not allow such destabilization to happen “at any cost”.

He stressed that both the central and state governments are working diligently to stabilize the situation and restore harmony.

“The entire government machinery is dedicated to bringing back peace and harmony to Manipur,” Nadda said, adding that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting investigations into the violence.

“The entire government machinery is dedicated to bringing back peace and harmony to Manipur,” he said, noting that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is actively investigating the violence.

Nadda also criticized the Congress for its handling of similar incidents in the 1990s and during the UPA era, pointing to widespread violence and prolonged blockades.

Nadda highlighted the transformation of the Northeast under the Modi government, saying, “The Northeast region has witnessed a complete transformation in every sector – be it economy, security, health, education or access to growth opportunities.”

He claimed that Manipur has seen a significant reduction in multidimensional poverty from over 20% in 2013 to just over 5% in 2022.

Accusing the Congress of exploiting the Northeast for political gains, Nadda said, “Ignoring these developments, you and your party have chosen to use the Northeast and its people to gain political mileage and distribute your nefarious agendas.”

He also recalled the violent period under Congress rule, citing the 2011 blockade in Manipur that lasted over 120 days and caused significant economic losses.

Nadda also accused the Congress of aligning with foreign elements to destabilize India.

“This pattern of Congress leaders supporting and encouraging a nexus of foreign forces seeking to derail India’s progress is truly worrying,” Nadda said.

In his letter to President Murmu, Congress chief Kharge slammed the Union and Manipur state governments for failing to restore peace and normalcy in the last 18 months.
