HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Authorities are investigating a crash that killed a 2-year-old boy and injured a 15-year-old driver in northeast Houston Wednesday night.

Houston Police Department officers responded to the crash at 9200 Tidwell Road just after 6 p.m.

Investigators discovered that the 15-year-old was driving a white Honda Pilot with the 2-year-old boy as a passenger.

The teenager failed to stay in one lane and crashed into a steep ditch.

Police said the child was not secured in a car seat and was injured in the impact, but was not ejected. The child was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to HPD, the teenage driver was determined not to be impaired. He was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

No charges have been filed and the fatal crash is still under investigation.
