KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Just after 10:30pm on Wednesday, November 20th, Kansas City Police responded to calls of a serious collision involving a pedestrian in a wheelchair on Interstate 49.

It happened just before the Red Bridge exit – a car hit a man rolling east-west on southbound I-49 for unknown reasons.

The silver Chevy Cruz was merging onto the right shoulder, yielding to a fire engine running behind with emergency lights and sirens.

The driver said they simply didn’t see the man in the wheelchair and hit him with the right front wheel.

The pedestrian was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver was not injured and remained at the scene to speak with authorities.
