Port Charlotte man breaks into house with knife, leaves dentures behind

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (WWSB) – A Port Charlotte homeowner called the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office about a burglary in progress after seeing someone break into his residence through security cameras he had installed around the house.

On Nov. 17, at approximately 4:45 a.m., the subject entered and exited several times – at one point taking a package from the front porch.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found 73-year-old Billy Joe Belcher sitting on the front porch. Deputies say he appeared intoxicated but followed commands.

According to the report, the patio slider had likely been opened by the knife Billy had in his pocket, and the jealous widow at the laundry room door had three broken windows where it appeared Billy had cut his right hand. Blood was also observed on the washing machine inside the room.

Inside the main house, the TV was on and Billy’s dentures and cell phone were lying on the floor in front of the couch.

Several drawers in the master bedroom had been opened, but it cannot be verified at this time if anything was taken due to the owner being out of state.

The homeowner, who was out of state, told deputies he advised him he did not know Billy and did not give him permission to enter his home.

Billy was arrested for burglary of an unoccupied structure while armed and transported to jail without incident.
