Oleksandr Usyk became the first man to unify the world heavyweight titles in 25 years when he beat Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia earlier this year. He won by split decision, getting the result on two of the three cards. The judges sat ringside in May and scored the fight 114-113 for Fury and 114-113, 115-112 for Usyk. It was a narrow margin of victory, but most fans believed the right man won, and Usyk now has the chance to prove it in this rematch.

The champion heads to Saudi Arabia with his professional record standing at 22 wins from as many contests, 14 of those wins coming the distance. He defeated every opponent placed before him en route to dominating the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions. Usyk’s hit list already boasts the scalps of Tyson Fury, Daniel Dubois, Anthony Joshua, Derek Chisora ​​and Tony Bellew. He beat AJ twice. Is he about to do the same to Fury?

Usyk has often played the role of supporting Fury before their first fight, but the Ukrainian took center stage when he met his rival at a recent press conference. Here are three picks to consider before fight night.

Fury vs Usyk I went all 12 rounds and forced the score judges to pick their winner and I don’t expect the rematch to end quickly either.

Each of Fury’s last two fights went the distance, taking Francis Ngannou 10 rounds before going 12 with Usyk. Going back further, we note that four of the competitor’s last five matches have lasted at least 10 rounds. Usyk’s recent form adds weight to our prediction, with four of his previous five going the 12-round distance. The backup in that round was an entertaining ninth round win over Daniel Dubois last summer.

Back fights last at least 10 rounds and it doesn’t matter which warrior wins or how they get the result. As long as we hear the bell to start round 10, you’ve made a profit.

Sticking with my prediction for this fight to go into the later rounds, I’m tipping slightly better odds backing the rematch to go the distance and be decided again by the judges in Riyadh.

The first meeting was a back-and-forth affair, with Usyk starting well before Fury took the lead in the middle rounds. The titles were there for the taking heading right at home and it was the Ukrainian champions who rallied to secure victory. I expect something similar in December, with both men enjoying spells of dominance before the fight is decided in the championship rounds by who wants it more and has prepared the best.

There’s more to come from Usyk, and he’s booking special shows for the big nights.

Usyk will prove too quick and accurate for Fury, clinching the early rounds before relying on his speed and fitness to attract the judges’ attention when the going gets tough in the closing stages. Usyk back to double over Fury with another points win.

I’m a big fan of Fury and would love to see the titles back in the UK, but I’ve seen it’s unwise to ever doubt Usyk. He is too good.
