The latest on the Capitals captain after his knee-to-knee collision against Utah

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin left Monday’s game against the Utah Hockey Club after a knee-to-knee collision.

In the third period, Ovechkin was skating when he collided with Jack McBain in an apparent knee-to-knee collision. He needed help to get up and eventually went down the tunnel and never came back.

Here’s the clash:

Head coach Spencer Carbery told reporters in Salt Lake City that Ovechkin is currently being evaluated. Washington won 6-2.

The 39-year-old scored twice in the win before leaving the game to take the NHL scoring lead with 15 goals on the season.

Washington is hoping for the best for its captain, but admitted it was hard to see him go down.

“Yeah, it sucks. I mean I hate to see that, he’s been absolutely on fire and he’s massive for our team,” Nic Dowd said after the game. “He’s our captain, you’ve got to score goals to win games. He played incredible hockey. You hate to see it.”
