An off-duty employee at Silver Mountain Resort was injured Sunday after a gun was accidentally discharged at the top of the mountain, according to a Silver Mountain news release.

The gun was unloaded around 8:50 p.m., and medical personnel were transported to Mountain House by an ambulance to assist. The injured employee was transported up the mountain by gondola and taken to receive medical treatment for his non-life threatening injury.

The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office reported that a gun in his pants pocket went off when the individual reached into his pocket.

Deputies determined the incident was an accident and said they would not investigate further.

Shoshone County Fire District no. 2, the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office and Silver Mountain employees were credited with quickly removing the injured worker from the mountain.
