Holiday Event at Boone Homestead

The Daniel Boone Homestead in Exeter Township will host “A Homestead Holiday” on Sunday, Dec. 8, from noon to 4 p.m. The event promises a glimpse of Christmas as it was experienced nearly 300 years ago.

Visitors can learn about Pennsylvania English and German holiday celebrations, listen to carolers and an old-time band, visit with Santa Claus and Belsnickel, and enjoy Christmas crafts and activities.

There will be crafts and activities for children, including a Christmas scavenger hunt.

Hot chocolate and warm wassail from the house will be available. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 65 and over, $5 for ages 6-17 and free for children under 5 and Daniel Boone Homestead Associates members.

Photographic Society

The Berks Photographic Society presents a hybrid Zoom session, “Creative Motivation,” Monday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m., in Suite 326 at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, 201 Washington St., Reading.

The program is led by Jonathan Vaines from the UK, who will present an artistic approach to photography, breaking out of the mainstream. Alongside individual images, he will discuss the motivational benefits of working with projects, sets and groups of images, creating art from simple, everyday things around us.

Garden folklore

The Pennsylvania Heartland Herb Society invites the public to a program on herbal and garden folklore presented by Sarah Lisenmaier of Rabbit Run. It will be held on Thursday, November 21 at West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Ave. Social gathering at 9:00, program at 9:30.

Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered, 12-step program for those struggling with hurt, pain or addiction, meets Thursdays at 6:30 pm at GT Church, 1110 Snyder Road, Spring Township. Participants need not be church members. For more information, call 610-413-5049 or 484-577-6898.

The Reading Musical Foundation, WCR Center for the Arts and Dave Kline Productions will present Guitar-A Rama 2024 on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the WCR Center for the Arts, 140 N. Fifth St., Reading.

The event begins with a workshop and jam session at 1:30 p.m., followed by a three-hour show at 2:30 p.m. Lineup includes Quarantined Quartet, Josh Taylor & Dave Kline & The Gypsy Jazz-Blues Fusion Band. Doors open at 1.

Ceramic event

The Stahl Ceramics Preservation Society is holding “Stahl’s Family Christmas” Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 24 at 6826 Corning Road, Zionsville.

Hours are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. Admission is $5 per person. Under 18s enter for free and parking is free.

Short pottery tours will be available and fresh baked goods will be served. A heated tent will house about 10 potters selling their wares, and the society will sell its own memorabilia. Cookies, candy, hot chocolate, hot cider and coffee will be available for sale, and Schaeffer Catering will be selling hot and fresh food.

Blandon History

The Fleetwood Area Historical Society will meet Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Keystone Villa of Fleetwood, 501 Hoch Road, Maidencreek Township. It will be a program about the history of Blandon. The company’s business meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. Residents, some of whom helped provide input into the program, will join the group after dinner.

Sinking Spring Program

The Sinking Spring Area Historical Society meets Wednesday, November 20 at 7 pm in the Sinking Spring Borough Hall, 3940 Penn Avenue, front entrance. Paul Druzba will present “Rigg – From Farmer to Trolley Tycoon,” vintage views of horse and buggy cars and how a boy from Berks would control 62 corporations and found Met-Ed. Open house at the library

The Adamstown Area Library is hosting an open house from 4-6pm on Friday, November 22 to celebrate Extraordinary Giving and its fourth year in a new building.

There will be music, refreshments, fun activities for kids, games and community connections. There will be a Thanksgiving basket that includes a turkey as well as a social potluck with a selection of beautiful baskets. The library will provide food and beverages, including hot dogs donated by Denver Meats and donuts, apples and cider donated by Brecknock Orchards.

The Friends will hold a book sale during the open house, and the first 50 people to complete the adult scavenger hunt will receive a coupon for a free book.

Breast Cancer Exhibition

Christmas bazaar

A Christmas Bazaar is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Community United Church of Christ, 3330 St. Lawrence Ave., St. Lawrence. Event includes breakfast, lunch, cookies, soup, stuffing, basket raffle, crafts and an indoor flea market with a $2 bag sale at noon.

Genealogy meeting

The Berks County Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, November 21 at 6:30 pm in the Society’s library on the fourth floor of the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, 201 Washington St., Reading. Guest speaker will be Jonathan Bond of the Albany Township Historical Society. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Pain support

The sudSSpirit Grief Support Group for those who have experienced the sudden unexpected death of a spouse or significant other will meet on Tuesday, November 19 at 6 pm at the Exeter Community Library, 4569 Prestwick Drive, Exeter Township. Open house at the mansion

The Cocalico Valley Historical Society will hold its annual Christmas Open House on Sunday, Dec. 1, from 1 to 4 p.m., at 237-249 W. Main St., Ephrata.

Guests will be welcome to tour all three floors of the Connell Mansion, which will be decorated for the holidays. It has 13 rooms of exhibition space filled with artifacts.

Mark Herr will play an antique pump organ, and Ephrata High School students Anya Gilbert and Sarah Taylor will play the flute. There will be a visit from Santa Claus.

Other activities include set printing demonstrations and a craft activity. Refreshments will be available. There will be a Christkindlmarkt with ornaments by local artisans.

Barn Tour Book

The Lancaster County Barn Tour book, created in cooperation between the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster and the Historical Society of the Cocalico Valley, is available for sale as the holiday season begins.

The book is a guide to some of the most impressive barns left in Lancaster County. The book includes photos and biographies of each barn, which are easy to view from the roadway.

There are less than 150 copies left and a second printing is not guaranteed. Books can be purchased from the HSCV and HPTLC websites or in person at the historical society. The book is also available at Ephrata Cloister, Mainspring of Ephrata, Lititz Historical Foundation, Landis Valley Farm Museum, Mennonite Life, LancasterHistory.org and Columbia Crossing Center.

Sweitzer barns

Historic Rock Ford in Lancaster presents a lecture on the history of the Sweitzer Barns in Lancaster County on Saturday, November 23 at 1:00 p.m.

The two-level barn, or Sweitzer barn, originally appeared in the mid-18th century. Author Greg Huber will discuss the factors that helped influence its production and use.

Copies of Huber’s book “The Historic Barns of Southeastern Pennsylvania” will be available for purchase and signing.

History of Leesport

The Leesport Area Historical Society will present a program Monday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. in Bethany EC Church, 308 Main St. Jean Davis, will discuss women who traveled west with their families, sometimes against their will, to seek a better life. life. The stories are told, often in their own words, in harrowing detail.

Dale E. Graff, founder and former director of the Stargate Project, will present a program on ESP at the Soul Café on Tuesday, November 19 at 9:30 a.m. at West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Ave.

Graff will examine ESP experiences, ancient and modern, ESP research, and possible clues from quantum physics. For 30 years he was a civilian physicist with the Air Force External Technology Division and the Defense Intelligence Agency.
