Dense smog claimed the lives of two teenage friends after their bikes crashed into an unidentified vehicle at Mohi village in the district on Monday morning. After the incident, a darkness descended on the village. According to the information, the family of one of the victims cremated the body without notifying the police.

The victims have been identified as Harsimran Singh, 16, and Navdeep Singh, 15, both residents of Mohi village. They were students of class 11. Sub-inspector Jaswinder Singh, SHO at Sudhar police station, said the incident was reported around 7.30 am. While Harsimran was returning home after dropping his sister at her school near Halwara on a bicycle, Navdeep Singh was out running errands.

The sub-inspector added that both met on the outskirts of the village. Due to the dense fog, they did not notice a tractor-trailer parked on the side of the road and crashed their bikes into it. Both died on the spot.

The SHO added that while Navdeep Singh’s relatives cremated the body without informing the police, Harsimran’s body was sent to the civil hospital for a post-mortem examination. Relatives of the victim stated that the incident occurred due to reduced visibility due to dense smog.

Harsimran had lost his father a few days back. He used to drop his sister at her school in Halwara before reaching his school.

Child among three injured in freak accident

Three slum dwellers, including a child, sustained serious injuries in a freak accident after a rear tire detached from a moving bus and hit them near Gurdwara Nanaksar Sahib, Jagraon, on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur road, monday morning

After the tire came off, the bus stopped on the road triggering panic among the 40 passengers on board. The injured were identified as Jogi Sada, his son Saurav and Inder. The victims were rushed to the hospital.

Jogi stated that he was present outside his house when the accident occurred. They suffered multiple injuries.
