Caitlin Murray, the mother of three behind the Instagram account @BigTimeAdultingshared a video last month where she shared just a sampling of the health advice women are bombarded with, mainly on social media.

“Hey ladies. Have you been struggling to lose belly fat?” Murray starts the video. “Guess what? You’ve wrecked your metabolism by not eating enough. You’re not getting enough protein. Okay, you’re going to have to take grams of protein and multiply it by the number of stars in the sky, and that’s how much protein you’re going to need in a day to lose weight, but you’re going to have to stay in -a caloric deficit to lose weight.

She continues: “But you have to live your life too, okay. Memories, not macros”.

Murray goes on to offer more “advice,” reminding the women to start lifting heavy and stop doing cardio while continuing to get 10,000 steps a day, which she says, “It sounds like cardio, but we don’t call it that. more.”

“Be with the times,” says Murray. “So get your 10,000 steps every day, but don’t exercise every day. You have to rest or your cortisol levels will be through the roof.”

After also diving into conflicting advice about perimenopause, sleep, and more, Murray ends the video by saying, “Comment on the ‘science’ because my six-week plan to get completely ripped off. Stay tuned for more tips.”

Murray’s video has received over 600,000 likes and thousands of comments.

“Omg this is the funniest thing ever,” singer Pink commented on the video.

“You are PHENOMENAL,” wrote model and entrepreneur Molly Sims.

“You are…hilarious! And yes, I feel EXACTLY like that! Thanks for reminding me I’m not alone,” wrote another commenter.

Murray, 42, said she was inspired to create the video after she found herself “falling prey” to wellness content she saw on her own social media.

“I consumed this content like it was my other job. For example, “God. what do i do What should I do? I need to be healthy. I’ve got to be strong and keep my muscle mass,” Murray said.Good morning America.” “I tend to poke fun at myself on a regular basis, so usually the things that come out in my content are things that I’m going through personally, and I finally get to a point where I think, of why am I taking this so seriously?”

Murray said she made sure to highlight in her video some of the expressions she frequently sees thrown at women, phrases like “ripped” and “belly fat” and, more recently, the emphasis on eating protein.

She noted that while she realized what she was seeing was also on other women’s social media feeds, she was surprised by how quickly the video caught on and how relatable it was for so many women.

Mostly, Murray said she hopes that along with a good laugh, women learn from the video to take all the advice they get, especially on social media, with a “grain of salt.”

“The algorithm knows. It’s very smart. It’s going to target you and figure out what you’re hooked on and keep feeding you that,” Murray said. “So I think in many ways it’s a reminder to take everything with a grain of salt, because there’s no six-week plan to change something in your life. Indeed, it is consistency over time and good in the long run. habits that create a healthy life”.
