Employment rises in urban India during July-September

New Delhi, November 18 (IANS): There was an increase in the labor force participation rate (LFPR) in urban India among people aged 15 and above from 49.3% in July-September 2023 to 50.4% in July-September 2024, which indicates an increase in employment, according to data published on Monday by the Ministry of Statistics.

Figures by gender show that the LFPR for males aged 15 and over in urban areas increased from 73.8% in July-September 2023 to 75.0% in July-September 2024, reflecting an overall trend of male LFPR increase.

Similarly, the LFPR among women aged 15 and above for urban areas increased from 24.0% in July-September 2023 to 25.5% in July-September 2024, reflecting the increase in employment , according to the statement of the Ministry of Statistics.

The working population rate (WPR), which is defined as the percentage of employed people in the population, in urban areas among people aged 15 and over, also increased from 46.0% in July-September 2023 , to 47.2% in July-September 2024, which is another indication of employment growth.

The WPR for males aged 15 and above for urban areas increased from 69.4% in July-September 2023 to 70.7% in July-September 2024, reflecting an overall upward trend in male WPR, it said in a press release from the Ministry of Labour.

The urban unemployment rate (UR) among people aged 15 and over fell from 6.6% in July-September 2023 to 6.4% in July-September 2024.

The unemployment rate (OR) is defined as the percentage of unemployed people among people in the labor force. By gender, the RH among males aged 15 and over decreased from 6.0% in July-September 2023 to 5.7% in July-September 2024.

The RH among women aged 15 and over fell from 8.6% in July-September 2023 to 8.4% in July-September 2024, the release said.
