NEW ORLEANS (WVUE/Gray News ) – New Orleans police are investigating two shootings that left 10 people injured and two people dead on Sunday.

Police say the first incident occurred at approximately 3:38 p.m. in the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue in the St. Roch.

Officers assigned to a second line parade event reported hearing gunshots and responded to find eight victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

All were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

About 45 minutes later, officers responded to reports of a second shooting at the intersection of Almonaster and Florida Avenue.

Upon arrival, police found two victims at the scene. Officials say one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene and the second was taken to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

A third victim of this incident reportedly sought medical attention privately and is listed in stable condition.

Police closed the second line parade event as part of the investigation. Police stressed that the investigation is in its early stages, with detectives working to identify suspects, determine a motive and gather additional information.

The shootings drew responses from state leaders.

Governor Jeff Landry shared in a post on X“A tragic scene in the neighborhood of St. Roch tonight. Sharon and I are praying for everyone involved and are grateful to the first responders on the scene. The violence must end.”

Attorney General Liz Murrill also commented on the incidents, post on X, “I am saddened to learn of this senseless mass shooting in New Orleans this afternoon. I pray for the victims and their families. This type of wrongdoing will NOT be tolerated. I hope the culprits will be caught soon and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
