Man arrested for stabbing victim after rummaging through car while being chased

OGDEN, Utah (ABC4) — A man was arrested Saturday for allegedly stabbing a victim after the victim saw two suspects rummaging through their car and chased them into a nearby parking lot, according to police.

Christian Becerra, 22, was arrested around midnight Saturday on charges including aggravated assault and criminal trespass.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Weber County, the victim reported being stabbed by someone after seeing two people rummaging through her car.

“The victim chased 2 suspects into a nearby church parking lot attempting to gather any property they might have taken,” the affidavit states.

After chasing the individuals, the victim said one of the suspects — later identified as Becerra — turned and stabbed him “in the upper right side” of the chest. The victim’s right lung was punctured in the stabbing, according to the documents.

Officers searched the area near the incident and located Becerra, who matched the description the suspect gave officers. Becerra was sweating and out of breath when he was found, according to the documents.

Becerra allegedly admitted he had “come from the general area where the stabbing occurred,” the affidavit said. Officers found drug paraphernalia (including THC cartridges) on him and arrested him.

After being taken to the police station, documents say Becerra admitted to entering the victim’s vehicle and stabbing them after being chased into the church parking lot.

Becerra allegedly claimed the victim attacked him, but the documents said he had “no visible injuries consistent with his recollection of the events.”

Becerra was arrested on charges of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony; one count of possession of a controlled substance, a Class B felony; one count of criminal trespass, a Class B felony; and one count of use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class B misdemeanor.

Becerra was booked into the Weber County Jail on the aforementioned charges.

Allegations are just allegations. All persons arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
