Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested Nazir Ahmad Wani, a Pakistan-trained Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, after 31 years on the run in Kashmir’s Budgam.

Wani was involved in two cases registered in Saharanpur in 1993 and 1994 and is accused of hurling a grenade at a police party and injuring the personnel.

He also created a fake identity card under the guidance of Hizbul.

“His background is being checked as the arrest comes after 31 years of registering an FIR,” a source said. CNN-News18.

He was earlier arrested and bailed in the grenade case, while a chargesheet was filed in absentia in the forgery case. “In the forgery case, the chargesheet was filed in the absence of the accused, hence the CJM court issued a warrant against the subject,” the source said.

Wani contested the Budgam assembly elections on an AAP ticket. The J&K Police assisted the Saharanpur Police personnel in the arrest. “The subject was located and handed over to the police under the appropriate formalities,” the source added.
