Blossom Inc’s work at Port Kaituma has been hampered by the lack of a child protection officer

Since launching the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) in Port Kaituma, Region One, just over three years ago, Blossom Inc, the non-governmental organization that runs the centre, has conducted more than 200 forensic interviews with child victims of sexual abuse, according to the founder and its managing director Ayo Dalgety-Dean.

“While Blossom Inc has done its best, the challenges we face are immense,” said Dalgety-Dean. “Our work at Port Kaituma extends beyond the CAC. We actively work with the police to conduct outreach programs aimed at preventing child sexual abuse and gender-based violence, reaching communities like Big Creek. However, significant challenges remain, including the remoteness of the region, harmful social norms and limited infrastructure. These barriers increase operational costs and limit access for vulnerable families in hard-to-reach areas.”
