Victim, suspects identified in Rutland shooting

RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – One man is dead and two people are in custody after a shooting Friday night in Rutland.

In video obtained by WCAX, a surveillance camera shows the victim — who police say is 32-year-old Christopher Hale — walking onto the porch of a home on Elm St. around 7:00 Friday night and knocking on the door.

Hale waits and knocks again, giving no indication that he is in danger. And then more gunshots, seeming to come from the street.

The alleged shooter runs off in the background and Hale is dragged into the house

Police say Hale later died at the hospital.

Several people WCAX spoke to, who did not want to be on camera, who live in this neighborhood say it’s a quiet area and are shocked that a shooting happened on this street.

“I was walking two blocks past Stewarts coming this way. Getting off at the transit station. I just heard the gun shots. I froze in one spot and tried to listen to where they came from,” said Keith Porter of Rutland.

Police say they have arrested two people. Dylin Wainscott, 28, of Westfield, MA is charged with first degree murder and possession of narcotics.

Precious Okorie, 38, of Springfield, MA is charged with conspiracy and accessory before the fact.

Both suspects are being held without bail pending arraignment on Monday.

Police say they believe this was a targeted incident and there is no further threat to the public.
