‘The Voice’ Sundance winner shot in the head in Texas, wife offers hopeful update after emergency airlift

“The Voice” season 11 winner Sundance Head was airlifted to a Texas hospital from his ranch after suffering a gunshot wound, TheWrap has learned.

At this time, the injury does not appear to be life-threatening, as the bullet missed his vital organs, according to his wife, Misty Head, and his team. Additionally, Sundance’s rep tells TheWrap that the incident was not self-inflicted, but rather an “accident or stray bullet from a nearby hunter.”

“Prayer Warriors we need you all. This is Misty — I don’t have much info, but please keep Sundance in your prayers. Sundance was taken for life with a gunshot wound to the stomach after the paramedics called me,” Misty wrote on Facebook Friday. “They told me that once it lands, it will be operated immediately. They made him stable for flight (according to the paramedic) Now we’re on our way to Tyler. Again, this is the only information I have at the time. Please keep him in your prayers.”

However, she shared a hopeful update following that initial post: “The doctor just called me, the bullet went in above her belly button and lodged in her abdominal wall, missing all her vitals. It will not require surgery as it does not remove the bullet. I’m sure he said why, but my head is in a fog right now. Being on the bigger side was a good thing. The bullet is in his fatty tissue. Thanks for all the prayers.”

Sundance won season 11 of “The Voice” in 2016 with fellow country singer Blake Shelton as a coach. He also appeared on “American Idol” Season 6 in 2007.

TMZ was the first to report the news.
