A pedestrian died in a crash while crossing Melville Road on Friday night

A man died after he was hit by the driver of a car while crossing a road in Melville Friday night, Suffolk County police said.

Around 8:30 p.m., a northbound 2003 Toyota sedan was traveling in the left lane on Broadhollow Road between Spagnoli and Ruland roads when the male driver struck an eastbound crosswalk.

The pedestrian, who was not identified by police, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured and the vehicle was impounded for safety inspection. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call Squad Two at 631-854-8252.
