A MAN covered his face with his hand at Limerick District Court on Saturday afternoon as he was charged with murder.

Darragh Quinlivan, 41, originally from south Limerick but living in the Manchester area of ​​the UK for several years, appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court.

Detective Sergeant Eoin McDonagh, Roxboro Road police station, gave evidence on Friday that he arrested Mr Quinlivan at Shannon Airport. Sgt McDonagh said he told Mr Quinlivan he was arresting him in connection with the killing of Noel Campion.

Sgt McDonagh said Mr Quinlivan replied “no problem”.

The detective sergeant said Mr Quinlivan was taken to Henry Street police station where he was charged at 7.15pm with the murder of Noel Campion (pictured below) in Thomondgate on April 26, 2007.

“He did not respond to the charge after being warned,” Sgt McDonagh said.

Inspector Fergal Hanrahan, prosecuting, applied for Mr Quinlivan to be remanded in custody pending the service of the evidence book.

Sarah Ryan, Mr Quinlivan’s lawyer, applied to Judge Patricia Harney for a disclosure and legal aid order on her client’s behalf.

Judge Harney granted the applications and remanded Mr Quinlivan in custody to appear Limerick District Court via videolink on November 19.

There was a large garda presence in the courtroom during the brief hearing, with a number of inspectors, inspectors, detectives and uniformed officers present.

Mr Quinlivan, wearing a black tracksuit with a white stripe, covered his face with his palm during the hearing.
