Convicted credit union robber

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — A man who robbed the Union Square Credit Union vacation in June 2022 is sentenced to prison.

Melvis Compton, which has had around 60 arrests since 1988pleaded guilty in District Court 30 on the morning of Friday, November 15, 2024.

He received eight years in prison for robbery and possession of controlled substances. The sentences will be executed concurrently.

Police said Compton handed a teller a note demanding money during the June 28, 2022, robbery, and she handed him several thousand dollars.

One was arrested after a sheriff’s deputy was being chased in a four-wheeler

He didn’t go far from the credit union after the robbery, with witnesses telling police they saw a man leave and change his durag to a baseball cap and turn his camo shirt inside out.

About an hour later, an officer spotted the suspect outside a nearby motel.

Police said they found a large amount of cash on Compton and also a plastic bag of crack cocaine in his left sock.

One of the $100 bills in his possession matched the serial number of one of the bills taken during the robbery, and police said Compton admitted to the robbery.

Compton’s arrest and conviction record shows numerous aggravated assaults, aggravated robberies, kidnappings, burglaries, thefts and parole violations.

In one incident in 2014, KFDX reported that he was arrested after a robbery at a store in the 400 block of Indiana, in which the store owner fired several shots but did not hit Compton.
