A row with his brother got a 20-year-old from Inverness so angry that he started trashing the property he was visiting in the city and caused more than £7,000 worth of damage.

Jaq Hodgson, of Cameron Barracks, Old Perth Road, first smashed through a suspended glass fitting, which badly cut his hand.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard blood start to smear on the walls and doors, before destroying a TV, splashing water on the floor and breaking another light fixture.

The police were called and Hodgson was arrested.

Defending, Natalie Paterson told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald: “He had an argument on the phone with his brother about family matters. At that time he had been drinking a lot. He is sorry and can pay reparations.”

But the sheriff imposed an £840 fine after Hodgson admitted vandalizing the property in Inverness’s Hill Street and added he would let the owners take any civil action against Hodgson to recover any losses.

She continued: “If this is how you act after drinking, it’s not wise to drink. You cannot control your temper or emotions. This was a violent demonstration, albeit against property.”
