“Zero chance” Matt Gaetz would pass the background check

Former US Attorney Harry Littman said the attorney general nominee Matt Gaetz he would have no chance of passing a basic background check to work in a low-level position at the Justice Department, much less lead it.

A few hours after the president-elect Donald Trump nominated Gaetz, parliamentarian, on Wednesday resigned his position in the House of Representatives, effective immediately. The House Ethics Committee was scheduled to vote Friday on whether to issue a report summarizing it investigate in Gaetz on charges of having sex with a minor, illegal drug use including ecstasy, obstructing an investigation and other charges. After Gaetz resigned, the investigation became moot, and the committee is not expected to release the report.

Last year, the Justice Department concluded its own investigation into Gaetz and he refused to bring charges.

It comes out on Friday All In on MSNBC, Litman explained that the Justice Department conducts rigorous background checks on all potential hires. Gaetz’s candidacy, he said, will fail spectacularly for that reason.

“It’s a definite ‘breaking glass’ moment,” Litman said. “There’s never been anyone so unqualified, no prosecutorial experience, no legal experience to speak of, but that’s the least of it. Someone who comes to the department with real contempt and hostility for it will cause a major exodus. It will cause judges and juries across the country to have less credibility in the DOJ, which is truly the stock and trade of the DOJ.”

Litman then outlined why Gaetz would not be able to get a job at the lower levels of the department:

How do you judge character? How do you judge behavior? Through a substantive investigation, which we did. Four potential judges and I suffered twice.

There are tens of thousands of professionals in the Department of Justice. None of them none of them they could be hired for their jobs if they did what Matt Gaetz is accused of doing. MDMA is a freaking Schedule I controlled substance. Anyone who did this after law school would be absolutely disqualified.

And it’s more than that. On all of these behaviors, there have been so many people we don’t know about who have been disqualified through background investigations because they pose a risk to national security. Gaetz now says as prominently as possible, “I’ve never done any of that.”

What does that mean for any FBI agent, which of course he loathes? National security risk. Joel Greenberg (is) rotting in prison for the same thing Matt Gaetz did. Eleven years in Florida. What does he have on him to blackmail? What girls—minor or not—can tell about their drug-fueled orgies, each of which Matt Gaetz denies.

What else was he doing, you know? boasting on the (House) floor, showing images of sexual conquest? For national security character, there is zero, zero chance that whoever did this, much less a substantive investigation would result… could even take the first step toward an appointment at the lowest professional level of the Department of Justice, not to mention the Attorney General.
