Man on bail arrested, charged with attempted murder

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man who was out on bond for robbery has been arrested and charged with attempted murder, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

James Claybrooks, 22, has been charged with attempted murder, among other charges, in a shooting at a busy intersection that critically injured a teenager.

The shooting happened on October 18 at the intersection of 46th Avenue and Charlotte Avenue. An 18-year-old man was seriously injured, MNPD said.

Police said an investigation by the Special Investigations Division identified Claybrooks as the person driving the suspect car, which followed the victims on Charlotte Ave. A passenger in Claybrooks’ car allegedly opened fire, MNPD said.

The 23-year-old woman who was driving the victim’s car was not injured, but the 18-year-old man who was in the back passenger of the car was. The police believe that the man was the target of the shooting.

Police said the suspect’s car traveled to Lebanon and was caught on a license plate reader (LPR) camera.

MNPD said detectives are still following leads on the shooter.

Claybrooks was charged with two counts of attempted murder, reckless endangerment and aggravated reckless driving.

He was currently out on a $40,000 bond for an aggravated robbery arrest stemming from a holdup at a CVS Pharmacy on Gallatin Avenue in August.

Claybrooks is currently being held at the Davidson County Jail in lieu of $80,000 bail.
