Bail set for man who allegedly shot officers

The man who allegedly fired multiple shots at Belgrade police officers appeared in Gallatin County Court Friday morning.

Bail was set at $250,000 for 30-year-old Heriberto Urias.

“As stated in the nature of the offense and the fact that he was in violation in a previous case, we will set him on $250,000 bond,” said Gallatin Co. District Court Judge Rick West.

Urias’ court appearance was delayed Thursday due to concerns that he was under the influence.

Urias allegedly stole a gun from his neighbor before locking himself in a garage on Mantle Drive Wednesday afternoon, according to court documents.

When officers arrived on the scene and approached the garage, Urias allegedly fired two shots, forcing the officers to take cover.

No officers were shot, but one of the officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Urias was arrested and admitted to police that he threw the gun at his neighbor’s unit because he was scared.

Urias is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 29.
