This low pressure area is expected to gradually develop and move northward then northwestward over the next 24 to 36 hours, the statement said.

The system has a high probability of becoming a tropical cyclone, and based on current forecasts, it is increasingly likely that a tropical depression or tropical storm will develop south of Jamaica by Monday morning before moving even east and then north of Jamaica until Tuesday, Met. Office said.

“Regardless of its stage of development, the low pressure area is expected to bring unsettled weather to Jamaica beginning Sunday night through Wednesday evening. Consequently, the forecast is for cloudy conditions with periods of showers and thunderstorms, which may be strong at times, with strong gusty winds affecting sections of most parishes, particularly the eastern and south-central parishes during this period,” said meteorological authority during this period. release.

Fishermen on piers and banks are urged to begin preparations and be on alert for evacuation if necessary.
