Platforms like fanfiction.net, Wattpad and Own archive (AO3) are the most popular places to find fan works and feature millions of submissions in thousands of fandoms, including Harry Potter, Star Wars, Twilight, Marvel and The Hunger Games.

Fandom, of course, is not limited to fictional intellectual properties. Fan works about real-life people are just as popular and more controversial. One Direction, for example, has nearly 65,000 words on AO3, with ship between Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson – Larry Stylinson – making up 40,000 of them.

Fan-driven conspiracy theory that Styles and Tomlinson were in a secret gay relationship constantly denied of pair and other members of the band 1Dthe latter marking the rumours disrespectful to his girlfriend at the time. So notable was the ship and its passionate fans that it even appeared in a controversial animated segment from an episode of Euphoria.

That said, the gratuitous banter between incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden and Republican President-elect Donald Trump is not something we thought should — or should — ever exist.

In all seriousness, many of the 833 fics uploaded to Joe Biden/Donald Trump tag on AO3 – more works than some entire fandoms have – are ironic (no pun intended). They play into the enemy-of-lovers trope of two powerful men from opposite ends of the political spectrum.

“They fought constantly in front of the camera, they constantly fought for the title of president, but he knew, deep down, that their relationship was more than pure hatred,” reads a paper, which has the most big congratulations in tag.

Another says: “Stupid Biden, he thought. She just couldn’t stop thinking about him.. ugh! Why did he have to think about him on such an important day, he was so upset that he didn’t have time to read the handouts for the debate his advisors had given him, well he wasn’t going to anyway to read them … she blushed at the thought of what Biden would say today.”

Well, different moves for different people, as they say… *rolls eyes*.
