This post contains spoilers from the Thursday, November 14th episode Grey’s Anatomy.

It was a heartbreaking goodbye night Grey’s Anatomy.

The episode picked up after last week’s cliffhanger, which left the lives of Mika Yasuda (Midori Francis) and her sister Chloe (Julia Rose) hanging in the balance. Doctors at Gray Sloan Memorial raced to save them, but in the end, only one sister survived the accident.

Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) faced the reality of leaving the hospital for a new position in Texas. As he struggled to say goodbye to Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), took a leap of faith when it came to a new relationship with James (Michael Thomas Grant).

Love and loss of sister

Doctors were shocked when Mika and her sister Chloe arrived at the hospital after their car accident. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) and Ben Warren (Jason George) ran to help them.

When Lucas Adams (Niko Terho) wanted to jump in to help, Mika desperately told him, “Go take care of Chloe, please,” before her stats began to drop and she quickly realized that suffers from a herniated liver.

Bailey asked Jules Millin (Adelaide Kane), Simone Griffin (Alexis Floyd) and Benson “Blue” Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) stay away from the trauma bay, but Jules panicked.

Outside the hospital, Jules blames herself for the accident after Mika helps her clean up for surgery amid her sister’s cancer treatment. When Blue told her not to think like that, she snapped back, “Our friend is fighting for her life out there and there’s nothing we can do about it. I know this may not matter to you and your heart of stone, but it matters to me.”

After the breakup, Jules revealed to Simona that she and Mika were more than friends, but struggled to define their relationship, saying: “What do you say when you’re flirting with someone and sometimes you kiss and you want to be together, but sis them. gets sick and you work together?”

Simone replied that it was “complicated” between the pair. Jules later told her, sharing, “I’ve never been in a relationship that felt like this. Light and electric, and I think we’re both afraid of messing up.”

“Mika won’t go down without a fight, especially if she has you to fight for,” Simone replied.

Meanwhile, the doctors argued over the best approach to take with Mika’s care, but Bailey reminded them, “This is one of ours lying on this table, but he has to stop argue and save her life” before coming up with a game plan to save her.

Doctors also diagnosed Chloe with acute compartment syndrome, which is a build-up of pressure in a muscle compartment.

During the operation, Chloe had a bad vascular bleed and was in danger of losing her leg. The interns heard them say a “code blue” for her and ran to save her. However, it was too late and Lucas called it the hour of death.

When Mika woke up from surgery, she immediately asked about Chloe. Bailey shook her head and Mika repeatedly said “no” before bursting into tears.

A fond farewell

As Schmitt prepared for his last day at Gray Sloan Memorial, he and James thought about when they would see each other as they lay in bed together.

“Texas feels very far away right now,” Schmitt told his boyfriend that he would be relocating for his new research position.

While in kindergarten, Schmitt worried about taking his long-distance relationship with James to Jo, saying, “I haven’t even moved in yet and it’s already hard.”

After Jo said she had been “tired and hormonal” since the pregnancy, Schmitt replied: “I don’t know what I would have done all these years without you.”

Although initially hesitant to give her relationship advice, Jo later opened up about her own experience, saying: “Long distance is awful. It’s expensive and lonely and I would never recommend it, but you decide to make it work, so it will.”

After their conversation, Schmitt asked James to move with him to San Antonio, but James hesitated. “My whole life is here. my job I just bought my loft.”

“I’m falling in love with you,” Schmitt interrupted. “I’m sorry to put you on the spot like this. You don’t have to decide this second. You don’t even have to decide today, just think about it.”

However, his offer initially went unanswered as James said he would have to discuss it later.

Before leaving the hospital, Jo has another heart to heart with Schmitt. She called having sex with him “the best mistake I ever made,” referring to their one-night stand in season 14, then asked him to be godfather to the twins she’s expecting.

“The world is a hard place, full of hard people, but you, you go through life with this huge, open heart,” she said.

When Schmitt left, a series of flashbacks were shown of his time at Gray Sloan before James came to find him.

James then informed Schmitt that he had resigned from his job and was ready to move with him to Texas. The pair then kissed and Schmitt said: “Let’s go together!”

Finding acceptance

Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) was still struggling to come to terms with Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) explanation of her kiss with Cass Beckman (Sophia Bush), a trauma surgeon at Seattle Presbyterian.

“Let someone kiss when we should be working on our marriage,” he told her coldly. “I think I know enough.”

Owen later admitted he had ‘overreacted’, adding: ‘It was a mistake and you told me straight away. You did nothing wrong.”
