The Kelly Clarkson Show was praised for marking Trans Awareness Week by championing the coming out story of a trans woman.

Wednesday (November 13) The Kelly Clarkson Show host Kelly Clarkson honored the week-long milestone by speaking with Jenna Tea, a trans woman from Salt Lake City, Utah.

The tea has recently gone viral social media after she shared how she came out her “kind and accepting” grandparents. “It doesn’t matter to me,” her grandmother said in the clip. “Whoever is there, I love.”

Clarkson told Tea, who appeared virtually in the episode: “Every time I hear (your grandmother’s voice) I cry. It was the most beautiful thing, it was so sweet.”

“He’s always been very supportive,” Tea revealed. “First I came out as gay, then I came out as a drag queenhence all the clothes behind me!”

Tea told the audience how her grandmother attends every one of her drag shows and “always tips the drag queens,” which was “so nice” to experience.

“But one day, I went to her house and I was wearing a dress and the subject came up,” Tea explained of how it came out. as trans at her grandmother’s. “He just started saying all those sweet things. So I hit Record and she had no idea and I captured that really beautiful moment.”

Tea explained that many older people responded to the video saying they resonated with her story, as well as young people. “It really shows hope,” she explained. “I think hope, especially now in the world we live in, is really important.

“I would just say that hope and being your most authentic self is what we have and should hold on to right now,” concluded Tea.

Following the interview, Clarkson was applauded for shedding light on a trans-positive story, especially given President-elect Donald Trump’s terrible election win and what it could mean. for the LGBTQ+ community.

“Kelly, it’s huge that you’re doing this on your show, especially now,” one fan rightly remarked on TikTok. Another replied: “So happy to see Kelly talking about Trans Awareness Week and uplifting trans stories! It’s so important, especially now.”

A third added: “Thank you for speaking up and supporting the trans community. we love you.”
