Seth Meyers mocks the GOP’s sudden concern about Trump’s cabinet pick

Seth Meyers expressed frustration Thursday with prominent Republicans who i look surprised by the President-elect of Donald Trump many controversial cabinet choices in the past week.

Meyers showed a news clip from Response from Senator Lisa Murkowski to Trump’s selection of the Florida representative. Matt Gaetz to lead the Department of Justice. The Alaska Republican said, “I don’t think it’s a serious nomination for attorney general. We need to have a serious attorney general and I look forward to the opportunity to consider someone who is serious. That wasn’t on my bingo card.”

“I like that Republicans are saying we need to have a serious attorney general,” Meyers said. “You didn’t seem to feel the need for a serious president.”

Meyers added: “Your party elected a messed-up crime show host with the same make-up artist as (Italian opera) Pagliacci, who I can’t close an umbrella. Also, for everyone who didn’t have (Gaetz’s selection) on their bingo card, maybe throw away the bingo card, because now there’s a whole new bingo.”

Meyers brought up how Trump’s former national security adviser, John Bolton appointed Gaetz’s choice “the worst nomination for a Cabinet position in American history.”

“Still,” Meyers replied. “You forgot the word ‘yet.’ Trump still has plenty of time to outdo himself.”

Meyers argued, “I know Democrats will be tempted to echo Bolton and make it about character and decency, but there’s a much better argument. Take a lesson from the election. Ignore the John Boltons of this world.”

He advised Democrats: “Make this about corruption. Make it about power. Who will Gaetz use his power to protect? … The oligarchs, the war hawks he fills his cabinet with. It is an administration of the rich and powerful, for the rich and powerful.”

Meyers concluded, “Put simply, these guys want to take your s–t, and Americans need to stand up and say…” He resumed a moment of Trump’s Defense Secretary pick is Pete Hegsethsaying, “I want my s–t back.”
