PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A Putnam County school bus driver has been indicted by a grand jury in connection with an April crash that injured her and several students, according to indictments released Thursday.

Amy Allen, who is from the Red House, is charged with 28 counts of child neglect creating a substantial risk of serious injury, 22 counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance causing bodily injury and driving under the influence of a controlled substance with an unmanipulated substance. minor.

The incident happened on April 10 on State Route 62, also known as Roosevelt Boulevard, in the Eleanor area.

At the time, investigators believed the driver was experiencing a medical emergency. The bus left the road and crashed into a tree.

Investigators said nine students were taken to the hospital, including one with serious injuries who had to undergo surgery.

Twenty-eight students were on board at the time of the incident, most attending George Washington Elementary and Middle School.

The road was closed in both directions during the investigation.
