Anonymous content signs “Grand Theft Hamlet” filmmakers

EXCLUSIVE: Award-winning documentary maker Pinny Gryllsand award-winning director, video artist and actor Sam Crane they signed with Anonymous content for representation.

The two teamed up to direct their debut film, Grand Theft Hamlet, which won this year’s Documentary Grand Jury at SXSW. The film documents their journey to stage a live performance Hamlet in Grand Theft Auto, which won a Stage Innovation Award. The film has long been shortlisted for four British Independent Film Awards and will be released in UK and US cinemas in 2025 and on Mubi. In addition, the project won numerous awards, including the Frontier Competition Grand Prize at DMX Docs, the Vancouver International Film Festival Audience Award and Best Documentary at Sitges, and was screened at Hot Docs, Vision Du Reel, CPHDox and many more this year.

Damon Wise of Deadline praised it Grand Theft Hamlet, “The premise is a winner and there’s plenty to enjoy as Mark Oosterveen and Sam speak iambic pentameters as bullets fly, planes crash and bazookas unload.”

Grylls began her career by co-founding Birds Eye View – the UK’s first film festival celebrating women and non-binary filmmakers. In 2008, her short documentary debut Peter and Ben premiered at IDFA, winning awards at festivals such as Aspen, London Short Film Festival and SXSW. Additional documentary credits include Channel 4 who do you think you areThe Guardian’s Thanks ladies, BBC/National Theatre Hour and The Royal Opera House’s Becoming Zerlina. Her focus has often been on behind-the-scenes stories of performers in theatre, ballet and opera. In 2024, Grylls won the BFI Chanel Award for Creative Boldness.

prior to Grand Theft HamletCrane released his machinima short We are the stuff dreams are made ofwhich collected numerous awards including Critics Choice at the Machinima Festival in Milan, “Best Video Art” at the Digital Arts Festival in Athens, was shortlisted for the Lumen Prize and longlisted for The Aesthetica Art Prize. On the theater side, he is an accomplished stage actor, known for starring in various West End and Broadway productions including Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Farinell and the King and 1984. As a prolific screen actor, his credits include Napoleon (Apple), Crown (Netflix), Transatlantic (Netflix), Van Der Valk (PBS), The trial of Christine Keeler (BBC), Cobra (sky), Poldark (BBC), Effort (ITV) and Call the Midwife (BBC). He recently finished filming The businessa six-part drama series for Arte/Les Films Pelleas about the Iran nuclear deal.
