Forecasters are tracking a tropical storm in the Caribbean with the potential to hit Florida as a major hurricane next week.

Tropical Storm Invest 99L is expected to become a tropical depression over the next two days and further develop as it moves over the central Caribbean Sea, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center. AccuWeather experts say conditions are right for it quickly develops into a major hurricane.

“There is potential for the storm to strengthen into a hurricane as early as Friday morning,” AccuWeather forecasters said. “Further intensification is expected after that, and a major Category 3 hurricane (maximum sustained winds of 111 mph or greater) is likely to sweep across the western Caribbean this weekend.”
